Some common questions and answers

Here are some frequently asked questions:

And here are some answers:

Is Living Culture Farm an organic farm?

Yes! All of our practices as well as our fertilizers and pest control approaches are certified organic, however, we are not a certified organic farm. The reasons are multi-fold: We are a new farm and the certification process is an investment of time and capital. We also believe in holding ourselves to a higher standard than the requirements for becoming certified. We will not use chemical fertilizers or pesticides and we are committed to working the soil in a way that is sustainable and builds nutrients and structure for the future through our use of compost, low-till and no-till practices, as well as relying on our own bodies for prepping, planting, cultivating, and harvesting. The only machine we ever employ is a small, walk-behind tractor for tilling as well as reincorporating our cover crops for nutrient-building. Larger machinery that is used on other farms rely on petroleum products and leak toxic emissions while compacting the soil in which the plants are growing. We are confident in our practices and their ability to serve our community and the future. We love what we do and we know you will too, so please come see for yourself!

Why Support Locally Grown?

Enhance your local economy: By purchasing produce and other items from local growers you are providing stability to your local economy through the support of local businesses.

Save natural resources: Buying locally makes you an invaluable link in the process of saving resources such as fossil fuels and packaging materials. Also, we are right here in your community so the expense of transportation and delivery is kept to a minimum.

Provide learning opportunities: Locally Grown supporters provide member growers the means to help educate our community about the importance of sustainable agriculture.

Supporting a way of life: The number of small farms in the United States has decreased dramatically in the last decade. Please help us preserve an honest and worthy means of making a living.

We believe that small, diverse, family-owned farms contribute to society’s overall health.
